Well every tournament needs some predictions. For every major event somebody here has done prediction write-ups as events went on, and I guess it's my turn to take one for the team. So rally the angry mob, grab your pitch forks and torches it's prediction time.
Conference alpha:
Check6.ut2k4
Roster- CombatCarl, GiMiX, Tex, elix, Frenzy, stryfe.
Expected finish-first.
My thoughts-I doubt anybody expects anything less from this team than first place. The core kaizen squad of it has plenty of experience playing as a team, three of the players are top NA duelers as well. While elix may not be as well known a name, he is still a monster. I don't know that much about Frenzy, but there is no way in hell you get on a team like that being a weak link.
H2o
Roster-wingzero, untold, kronok, osiris, sendo, sho'no_lov, replicant, mor_hed, ydp, hv.
Expected finish-second, third.
My thoughts-h2o should finish their conference in second, but it's not very clear cut at this time. The team has gone through several roster changes recently, and has yet to form up and get some solid work with the new roster. If they knuckle down and get some good practices second is theirs, if they don't then perhaps it could get stolen out from under them.
Lordz of Brooklyn
Roster- nytejade, battledragon, rudo, bklyn_pete, hamsgod
Expected finish- thrid, second.
My thoughts- Like h2o it's not very clear cut who will take second, and who will take thrid, though I'm going to place LOB at third place. LOB may have been together longer, and they probably have more experience working as a group. However the new h2o roster has some very good TDM players that (depending on if h2o gets them back into shape and gets their team work down) could over come that gap easily.
Xk
Roster- infinite, mac, esca, handoffury, uptown, arcane, legionz, stc, chief1522
Expected finish- fourth on up.
My thoughts- Unless your pretty entrenched into the NA TDM scene your going to look at the clan name and do a “who the hell is that”. On closer inspection you find some fairly famous names on the roster, who have come back to the game for GGL. I'm of the personally opinion that this team is the wild card of the alpha conference. They have the potential to beat LOB, or h2o. I doubt they will, but pay attention there just might be an upset.
Machina
Roster- ep1taph, thrice, zyth, Uzi, Mxx
Expected finish- fifth on down.
My thoughts- After the first four teams there is a skill gap between them, and the other half of conference. I don't entirely mean raw frag skills, but practice ethic, experience as a group, and a slew of other things. Machina has some good players, I just don't see them cracking top four in the conference. However I think out of the remaining four teams, they have the advantage.
Geniuz
Roster- stilz, Elian, Eli_somera, morph, vash
Expected finish- fifth on down.
My thoughts- Pretty much the same logic I had with machina. Nothing much to say here other than stilz is a sexy beast, but I don't think that will save them here.
Digital speed
Roster- Marvelous, smileyvexed, thrive, tabd
Expected finish- fifth on down.
My thoughts- Digital speed isn't as bad of a team as people tend to make them out to be. However with sho_no on h2o that robs them of (IMHO) the best TDM player they had, and puts a serious wrench in their game.
Matrix
Roster- moyer, miller, arch, mr.pibb, iamneo.
Expected finish- fifth on down.
My thoughts- If anybody get's an A+ for dedication it's matrix. These guys have been around since prior CPL, stayed on ladders, and haven't had player swaps left right and center. Which is in pretty amazing in UT. Sadly I don't think they have what it takes to break into the top 4.
