I've got DSL and I can never host a game. I mean it lets me set up a server and it shows up on both LAN and Internet, but no one can join my game.
I can log in to my own game through LAN but I can't do it through Internet. I have noticed that the Ping for my game says N/A in Internet.
Both my friends have Cable and everything works fine for them.
I can join their games and any other games, but I just can't host.

Most DSL Providers don't allow hosting unless you get Business Class DSL. The main reason for this is because they don't want you to buy a server, and start a website(like ebay* or something), without making more money. I have DSL, and have the same problem. If you complain to your provider, they might allow you host, but then again, they just might not care.

I doubt that has anything to do with it.
You may not be able to have people join your server not on your network because you're not directly connected to the internet. If you're on a LAN, and have more than one pc, it makes me think that you would need to forward the UDP port 7777 (by default) to the machine that is hosting the game.
In short terms, you're on a passive connection that routes through something first (a dsl router, or another computer), whereas your friends may be on a direct connection.

I agree with Ep1taph. DSL/Cable should make no difference.
If you have a router with DMZ, enable it and retest.
If its a fairly recent Linksys router, you can enable DMZ by:
1.) Obtain your LAN ip address. On a windows pc, go to start, run, and type in "command or command.exe", this should launch the command prompt for you. Once in the prompt type "ipconfig", without the quotes. The ip adress displayed will be your LAN ip.
2.)Opening your web browser to http://192.168.1.1 to log into your router interface, then go to "applications and gaming".
3.) Go to the DMZ tab, and enable DMZ on your LAN ip.
4.) Restart your ut server, and you should see a ping in the server browser then.
Warning: enabling DMZ fowards all ports on your router, try this first, and see if it works. If it does, then you can probably get away with disabling DMZ and fowarding the following game/server ports in you router interface.
7777 UDP/IP (Game Port)
7778 UDP/IP (Query Port)
7787 UDP/IP (GameSpy Query Port)
28902 TCP/IP (Allows your Server to Connect to the UT2004 Master Server Browser)
xxxx TCP/IP (Port set via ListenPort that your WebAdmin will run on)
Also if your pc is set to "automatically obtain an ip address" your local/lan IP may change after reboots. Keep this in mind, as you will have to enable/forward ports for this new ip each time one is assigned.
Even if your not behind a router, some dsl modems have a similiar interface. Log in to the modem instead, and try to foward the same ports/enable DMZ for the modem.

I am not using a router. I am using a new Westell 327W modem that has a router built in though. I clicked on the weblink and it brought up my modem interface but there wasn't anything about 'applications and gaming.' I was looking around and I couldn't find the DMZ. (I don't even know what it is) I already knew my IP address and I know it doesn't change. I haven't tried opening the game ports because UT2004 works fine online already and I have the whole game in exceptions under my firewall.
I would also like the thank you for taking the time to help me out. I greatly appreciate it. :)

Ok after checking your modems specs it appears that you do not have DMZ as you mentioned, which is fine. Im sure you probably have this, but if not:
http://www.westell.com/content/sales/327W.pdf
Referring to pg 153 details the ports needed to forward for a UT2k4 server, as well as the ones listed in the previous post. Section 13 (p115) tells how to do so.

I have 3 things you need to find out, your Host IP, your LAN IP, and your DSL Router IP. Your Host IP is the IP address of your DSL Host, If anybody has a page that tells this, please post the link, otherwise in a couple weeks i will create a page that tells this. Your LAN ip can be found by doing the following:
- Start Menu
- Run
type \"command\" without the quotes and strike enter
type \"ipconfig\" without the quotes and strike enter
Your Router IP is the series of numbers that you type in to access your DSL Router. Don't worry, most of the time it's a network IP address, so nobody can access it if they aren't hooked to your network.
Yes everybody, there is a HUGE difference between DSL and Cable. I will find a page listing all of the differences and post it sometime in the future. Also, i will write to my DSL provider seeing if they know how to allow hosting games, and if they dont, i'll ask them if most providers are the same way. I may post the message they send me on this topic, to prove or break what i've been told, and to help anybody that has this problem.

I just called Verizon and they told me that I need to upgrade to Buisness Class DSL in order to host. The woman I spoke with said that my modem wasn't able to host and she was talking about a special router. I don't get why it is so damn hard to host a game with DSL. It's really starting to irritate me, and I don't believe her. I am somehow convinced there is some way I can do this.

You need to do this in order to host.
This is how its done.
If you need more help, pm me on Xfire or irc.enterthegame.com #2k4tdm, #brp; im usually on after 9pm EST. It can be done, in fact, I used to do so with a similiar Westell DSL modem.
***The Buisness class DSL line only applies to "WebHosting", in which additional resources are provided (storage space, static IP adress, bandwidth).***

are the ports UPD or TCP? It also mentions multiple ports for one thing, can you type in more than one set to numbers in one exception table?

I cant speak for your individual config for the port forwarding, but from my experience, there is range fowarding in which you can set a range of values, say 7776 through 7788 UDP, or a setup in which you foward a particular value.

I put these ports into my firewall and I still can't host. Was I supposed to put them in my modem/router, and if so I don't know how to do that.

Yes you were suppossed to do that (forward your modem/router ports). With all due respect just carefully read the previous posts. I have provided a link to the manual for your modem/router in which it tells you how to do so. That same link/info was quoted like 4 posts ago.
