Hello,
first of all I would like to excuse my bad English skills.
Anyway what I was trying to ask is, how do players from the USA increase their skill. Most guys in Europe just do it like this => Watch a demo, think about what to do better, play a 1v1 *repeat*
Now I would like to hear how you are trying to get better and if there are any more efficient ways.
Sledgehammer
and yes blame me I am living in germany *hides*

I wouldn't ask us since the Euros are better.. but yeah. Play more, watch demos, and play. Don't know what else you could do.
It's not enough to succeed, others must fail.

getting better thats a hard one... because all it takes is a frequent training and watching demos of top skilled players also what helps is training your shock combos and try to sit down once in a while and think aoubt your strategy how you play and how you should play and how this is to be achieved like FataL1ty if you read his article on GGL (which is on quake3, but also applies to UT2004) have several strategies ready for a map and adopt one to the player your playing also when you know when ur enemy likes Hitscan weapons try and pick all the hitscans first to put him in a bottleneck forcing him to get close with rockets and flak while you blast him from far... also a thing to do is knowing your way around with every weapon is good assign a key to every weapon to fast weapon switch for a situation and is also cleaner for your style... being good at maths is also a plus e.g.
your fighting someone 1on1 in rankin:
your arsenal: Shock Rifle (40 ammo)
Lightning Gun (30)
Flak (25)
Minigun (200)
your health: 125 health and 100 shield.
Notes: you seen that all weapon spawns are empty meaning that the enemy has all weapons you dont have... (simple analysis)
also you note that he has taken the 50 shield
you now reside at the lightning gun area being vulnarable and deceptive for attacks from 4 sides.
Enemy arsenal: Link Gun(120 estimate)
Rocketlauncher(30)
biorifle(unknown)
enemy health: hp unknown at least 100+
50 shield
now u 2 meet at the next spawn of the large shield (first confrontation) while you are underway of picking up the large shield he tries to make a suprise hit which was a fail
U counter with a LG hit meaning that of the 150(+) total health there is: 150(+)-70=80(+) health left assuming that picked up several healthpacks around 5 (25health) we replace the + with 25 meaning that he has about 105 left now u need to decide what weapon u resume battle with u pull out the shock rifle and pulls off 2 hits with the beam (90 damage) and several misses(4) u still have plenty of ammo left. (34) now u know he has about 25 health left but to be sure u add another 15 to it and make it 40 hp after the 2 hits he retreats and picks up 3 vials and 1 healthpack which holds a total of 40 health now assuming he has 65-80 health. but u didnt come off battle without losing health your total of 225 is reduced to a 150 with 80 health and 80 armor u decide to head off to the small shield. the adversary has retreated to the and picked up 25 health(the one i already included) down at the shockrifle area so now u know he has the shock rifle(and probably the LG) knowing that you need to load up a bit he settles down at the corner of the little shield not picking it up but making a trap for you u picked up a 25+ pack first which juices your health to 100 against now you have 95 health 80 armor u pick up the shield and go on to pick up some vials on the upper walkway near the shock and as soon as you come around the combo he nails a combo in your face you damaged heavily your old total of 225 is now reduced to a 125 with 55 health and 70 shield ur enemy now hits you with a lg shot vaporising your armor to a tiny 20 and your health to 35 you know are 10-35 health total weaker then you adversary knowing he can nail you down with a wellplaced flak shot he comes in on you u decide to return to the health at the link gun/mingun area and picks it up making your health 60 again and 20 armor now a total of 80 the same max estiamte of your opponents life knowing now that you are both equally strong. you decide to take out the shock rifle and try and nail 2 shots doing 90 damage while his estimate is 80 max. he decides to rely on his flak not knowing you picked up the health he assumes your weaker then him and fully charges on you.. you keep your distance and nail 1 shot u decide to go round and pick up the large armor which is sitting there quietly while your opponent chases you like a dog spamming flak shots at you losing 20 health and 10 armor. 40 health 10 armor now. u pick up the large armor and get a armor of 110 meaning ur in fulladvantage of killing him and u have a good chance of nailing him when he comes down from the shaft above the shield u nail a perfectly timed combo and kill the bugger your down to one kill.
-----------------------------------------------------------
isnt really a small example but it shows what decisions you have to make while playing some of them u arent even aware off doing it automaticly, all of this becomes routine of your playing plan and u can adopt it at any player... like fatal1ty who has his own solid strategy and never adopts to the player he's facing. he follows his own plan thinking about himself first then perhaps the opponent there isnt a good strategy that fits us all u need to make your own to truly be succesful u can allways try and copy a style but it doesnt feel natural and u almost allways feel compelled to make a different choice this is a battle within u need win first before u really can be succesful, u develop your own style through playing alot of 1on1's trying to find a general strategy every1 follows.
just practise practise practise
