I have had a great time in onslaught battles using the microphone to communicate with team mates.
It can vastly improve coordination of troops - and the sense of battle.
When i've used the system our team has not lost a battle, so get used to talking - and make sure you have a convenient keybind ready.
I actually use an extra button on my mouse for the talk trigger.
Also, be familiar with what keys you want to use to change 'channels'.
I have the following -
the key P = Public - talk to all players in the game.
the key L = Local - only people within range can hear you (i haven't had much use for this, but i would imagine it would be good for vehicle crews to talk to each other only)
the key , = Team - the only people i talk to during the actual game (i switch back to public to chat with other players at games end)
The thought i had during tonight's game was i wished we could get a recording of both teams chatter to hear how the system was used.
So go out and buy a mic for your pc today. And hope all your teammates have one as well.
