It can be quite helpful at times to try and fool your opponent into thinking that you are at a location you are not. One of the ways to do this is to throw your weapon and then picking it back up (you need a keybind for this, and you can do this in the UT2004 menu -> settings menu).
Throwing a weapon and then picking it up will make your opponent believe that you are at that weapon's spawn location (when in fact, you are not! :) )
This can be handy when trying to ambush at certain advantageous spots, or distracting opponents into going after you when you go for power-ups or for you to set up ambushes that favour you.
Be warned though, sometimes this does not work, especially with more experience players or if you over use it too much. :)
